How Nama handles your data.

Your journal stays on your device. You do not create an account, and Nama does not keep a server copy. The website can store your email address if you ask for a release update. That is explained under This website below.

What stays on your phone

• Everything you write: Moments, meals, sessions, readings and measurements.
• Your attached photographs, videos, drawings, voice notes and files. Attachments are kept in the app’s own storage, not uploaded to us.
• Your preferences: theme, which blocks appear, your reminder times.

None of this is sent to us. You can choose to share an entry or create a backup, which produces a file you control and put wherever you want.

What leaves the device

If you tag an entry with where you were, Nama looks up that day’s weather. To do that it sends a position rounded to about a kilometre to a weather service. It does not send your precise location or an identifier, and we do not store the request. Your phone’s operating system works out the place name for the app.

If you never tag a place, no location is ever used and no weather request is made.

If you buy Nama, Apple or Google processes the payment, depending on where you downloaded the app. RevenueCat receives an anonymous identifier and your purchase status so the app can recognise your access after a reinstall or on another device. None of them receives anything from your journal, and Nama never sees your card details.

Resources and partner links

From version 1.0.4, Nama periodically downloads a public directory from namajournalapp.com while the app is in use and keeps a copy on your phone. This allows recommendations to stay current without an app update, including discovering the first listings when the directory was previously empty. The request does not include your journal, attachments, purchase information or an account ID.

Our hosting provider, Vercel, receives standard connection information such as your IP address to deliver the directory. Listing images may load from the partner’s image provider. Opening a partner link takes you to that website, where its own privacy policy applies.

Partner links may include public campaign labels so a partner can recognise a visit from Nama. Those labels identify the placement, not your journal or a unique Nama user. No journal content is included in them.

Permissions, and why

• Photos: only when you attach a picture, or a video on iPhone. Nama reads the items you pick and nothing else. On supported versions of Android, the system photo picker grants access only to the individual picture you choose. Nama writes to your library only if you turn on keeping a copy of media captured in the app.
• Camera: only when you take a picture, or a video on iPhone, inside the app.
• Location: only when you tag an entry, and only while the app is open.
• Microphone: when you choose to record a voice note on iPhone or Android, or record video on iPhone. Recordings stay with the entry you save and are not uploaded to us.
• Speech recognition on iPhone: when you choose to dictate an entry. Dictation is processed on the device and its temporary audio is deleted after transcription.
• Face ID or Android biometrics: only if you turn on the optional app lock. Nama receives only whether the operating system accepted the unlock.
• Notifications: only if you ask for a reminder. You can have up to three a day, at times you choose, and they are the only notifications Nama sends.

Every one is optional. Decline any of them and the rest of the app works.

Optional daily steps

Daily steps is off by default. If you enable it in Settings, Nama asks to read step counts from Health Connect on Android, or Motion & Fitness on iPhone. This displays a daily total alongside your journal. On Android, Nama requests read access to steps only; it does not write health records or request other Health Connect data types.

Step totals are read and displayed on your device. Nama does not upload them, share them with RevenueCat, use them for advertising, sell them, or use them to train AI models. Nama does not maintain a separate saved copy of these totals in its journal or backups. Disable Daily steps to stop reading them, or revoke access in Health Connect on Android or your iPhone’s privacy settings. The original step records remain with the service that supplied them; manage or delete those records there.

This website

The website is separate from the app. You can enter an email address if you want to know when Nama is released.

• If you use it, we keep your email address and the date. We do not ask for your name or create a profile.
• It is used once, to tell you the app is out. It is not sold, shared, or added to any other list.
• The address is stored under a one-way hash of itself, so the stored file cannot be read back into a list of who signed up by anybody who does not already have the address.
• Want it removed before then? Email disu.personal@gmail.com and it is gone.

Optional content, cookies and analytics on this site

The site asks, once, whether you are happy for Google Analytics and the Instagram profile feed to load. Both are off until you say yes:

• If you decline, or ignore the question, neither Google Analytics nor the Instagram feed loads automatically. Declining is remembered so you are not asked again. You can still choose to load the Instagram feed for that visit from its place on the home page.
• If you accept, Google Analytics records which pages are read, roughly where in the world from, and how people arrive. It sets cookies to do it. IP addresses are anonymised, and Google’s advertising and personalisation signals are switched off. We use this information to improve the site, not to advertise to you.
• If the Instagram feed loads, the public Nama profile and its latest posts are supplied directly by Instagram. Meta will receive technical information such as your IP address, browser and the page making the request, and may read or set its own cookies. You do not need to load the feed to use the rest of this website.
• You can change your mind by clearing this site’s data in your browser, which makes it ask again.

Separately, the site uses Vercel’s Web Analytics and Speed Insights for page counts and loading speed. Those are cookieless, hold no personal data, and run whatever you choose above.

None of this touches the app. Nama sends no journal content and uses no analytics or tracking regardless of what you decide here.

Analytics, tracking and advertising

There are none. No analytics SDK, no crash reporter that carries your content, no advertising identifier, no third-party tracking of any kind. Nama does not build a profile of you, because it has nothing to build one from.

Subscriptions

Payment is handled entirely by Apple on iPhone and Google Play on Android. Nama never sees your card details. Subscription status is managed through RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous identifier and your purchase status so the app knows whether a subscription is active. It receives nothing you have written.

Deleting your data

Deleting the app removes its data from the phone. If you gave us an email address on this website, you can ask us to delete that separately.

To request deletion of the anonymous purchase record held for Nama by RevenueCat, email disu.personal@gmail.com with the relevant App Store or Google Play order details. Deleting that record does not cancel a subscription or create a refund; those are managed by the store where you bought Nama.

Children

Nama is not directed at children under 13. The app does not collect journal content from anyone, and nobody under 13 should use the email box on this site.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
